ABOUT THE PROJECT
This 1000 sqft apartment had not been touched in years. The clients wanted to transform the heavily compartmentalized living spaces of the first floor into an open, functional and modern family home. With asbestos abatement and structural reinforcements, we had our work cut out for us.
OUR SOLUTION
After a full asbestos abatement, the original deflection wall running down the middle of the apartment had to be carefully removed and every joist was reinforced to maintain support of the second floor. Once completed, the entire floor was an open space ready to be transformed. New ductless air conditioning units were installed as well as new plumbing and electrical systems. A new powder room was added along with a new kitchen, white oak floors and dropped ceilings to help define the spaces. A full glass double door was added to the rear space dramatically increasing the amount of natural light in the apartment. The front door was custom made to fit the existing opening in a style to match the surrounding architecture.
